Brian Thomas Romo

President

My name is Brian and I work for the Inland Empire Community Collaborative on various projects as a GIS and Data Management Associate. I work on equity and accessibility projects through the IE Children’s Cabinet and the Family & Community IE to advocate for services that better serve children in the Inland Empire.

I am a graduate of the University of California, Riverside (UCR) with a master’s degree in Public Policy. During my time with the UCR School of Public Policy I completed a capstone project regarding trauma center accessibility in the Inland Empire by using network analyst models in ArcGIS. I was also selected to teach ArcGIS using ArcMap statistical models and software to identify problems and potential solutions in areas such as health care and crime. Most rewardingly, I also taught courses in race and ethnicity through the Department of Philosophy which allowed me to talk with students about complex issues regarding race and finding practical applications of critical race theory in policy development and implementation.

In 2016, I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in international relations and a minor in Israel Studies. During my time as an undergraduate at UCLA I was president of Progressive Leaders for Democratic Action. Our organization worked closely with the Americans for Democratic Action to push for more equitable policy for students at UCLA and for Angelinos as a whole.

I have worked on both Proposition 55 (2016), the California Extension of the Proposition 30 Income Tax Increase Initiative, and Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act. Both campaigns allowed me to work on issues related to equity and grade school education funding. I continued to work on statewide ballot initiatives and local campaigns including the recent No on 22 (2020), Yes on 25 (2020), and the Vanessa Tyson for California Assembly District 57 campaigns.

As Political Director of SBCYD, I aim to utilize all my experience to advocate for progressive policies in the region that better support historically disadvantaged communities in San Bernardino County.
