About the San Bernardino County Young Democrats
San Bernardino County Young Democrats was started in 2011 to identify and support young Democratic leaders in the region. The club started with a small group that helped with key campaigns in the area and even its own members running for local office. The club steadily grew and officially chartered with the California Young Dems in 2014. There were many shifts in leadership, but the club was able to maintain itself through the 2016 Presidential Election. The Presidential race brought a lot of momentum to the region and the club was able to capture many new activists that were looking to stay involved after their candidate had to drop out.
The club was able to really put itself on the map, elect delegates to the California Democratic Party, and finally help members lobby for policies to improve the region. Members also helped run voter registration drives in local high schools and helped get more young people civically engaged. In the 2018 election year, the club had six members run for local office. The club supported these and other local candidates with a text and phone banking campaign. Only two Young Democrat candidates won their races, but the campaign was able to reach over 10,000 voters across the county.
